About the Designer

Vico Magistretti (1920–2006) was one of the most influential Italian architects and designers of the 20th century, known for his timeless elegance, clarity of form, and human-centered approach to design. Born in Milan into a family of architects, Magistretti was immersed in the world of design from an early age and went on to study at the Politecnico di Milano, where he later returned as a professor.

His work spanned architecture, urban planning, and industrial design, but he is best remembered for his furniture and lighting pieces — many of which have become icons. Magistretti had a long-standing collaboration with some of Italy’s most prestigious brands, including Cassina, Artemide, and De Padova, creating classics like the Maralunga sofa, the Atollo lamp, and the Carimate chair.
